...my Mom buried her Dad Max E. Schaefer, he was 94 years old. He served in WWII and worked for a living as a bus driver. I asked my Mom why she buried him in his overalls, here is what she wrote:
Grandpa was a soldier. He also was a farmer. Although he always held a job off the farm, his first love was his cows and garden. I chose to bury him in overalls instead of his Army uniform because, growing up, I rarely saw Dad dressed in anything else unless he was going to work, whereby he wore a uniform, or he was going to a funeral or some other special occasion. I always remember him in overalls...with a red handkerchief stuck somewhere, either his back pocket, his front pocket, or inside the bib of the overalls. Although the War was important to him, I think the farm was truly his life...how he lived, how we all remember him. Toughskins...fitting, wouldn't you say?

Thanks, Brian, for your post remembering Grandpa...and me...today. It does my heart good to know he meant a lot to you. I miss him very much. I was blessed with a wonderful Father....and I'm blessed with a wonderful son.
